Cricket Development Officer - Sacred Heart College

INTRODUCTION:

 

The Cricket Development Officer at Sacred Heart College holds responsibility for the integrity and development of cricket in the school. The Development Officer will bring a high level knowledge of cricket both in strategy and skills development, and be able to profile the sport of cricket across the school.  The Development Officer also has a mandate to work across campuses and develop the program in conjunction with Sacred Heart Middle School.


CONTEXT
:

 

Senior cricket teams (1sts, 2nds, 3rds & 4ths) train after school on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, and play on Saturday afternoons in Terms 1 and 4.  The

Yr10’s (3 teams) train after school on Wednesdays with their games on Saturday mornings during Terms 1 and 4.

 

The 1st XI has a range of extra commitments including participation in the Statewide Knockout Competition, participation in the annual Marist Cricket Carnival and practice games against interstate Colleges early in Terms 1 and 4.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

 

The Cricket Development Officer will:

 

  • have an intimate knowledge of the game of cricket and be able to develop batting, bowling and fielding skills;
  • have well developed interpersonal skills and be able to relate to a wide range of personnel including students, parents and staff;
  • be a good communicator;
  • possess a commitment to cricket and an enthusiasm for developing the game;
  • be mindful and responsive to the Marist tradition that underpins Sacred Heart College;
  • have a genuine interest in young people and a concern for their welfare; and
  • agree to undertake police checks as required by child protection protocols.

 

SKILLS AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:

 

  • results and Match Reports to be phoned or emailed to Sports Administrator by early Monday morning;
  • deal with all matters of discipline and behaviour in conjunction with the Sports Administrator;
  • organise a committee of parents responsible for afternoon teas;
  • involve students as much as possible with duties to be undertaken, and ensure Captains and Vice Captains take on a leadership role;
  • attend training and provide specialist coaching;
  • supervise games;
  • liaise with Middle School;
  • co-ordinate a development squad of talented cricketers;
  • liaise with outside bodies;
  • assist with the appointment of coaches; and
  • develop quality controls and protocols to improve cricket.

 

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:

 

The Cricket Development Officer is a new position created in September 2009 – it will have a tenure of 1 year, pending a review of the success of the program.  It will be allocated a 20 hour salary which will be paid at a rate of $30.00 per hour during Terms 1 and 4.
